DIY Fun Sensory Foam Sand With 2 Simple Ingredients
Travelling with two kids is no child’s play.
We recently took a road trip to visit my in-laws. Between the kids, the nanny and us, the car was bursting at the seams with luggage. Once we were there and the first excited greetings abated, Ruhaan asked for his bag filled with kinetic sand. My heart plummeted to the floor! Damn! In spite of having packed a zillion things, I absolutely forgot to keep this one in the car. Did this mean he would kill me?! Uhhh, yes!!
To save my skin, I came up with this quick DIY sensory foam sand that I had read up about and had been meaning to try. Now was the perfect opportunity. And my husband to the rescue once again. Here is how we did it!
To make foam sand we used:
Sand: approximately 4 cups (gathered from the sand pit in the community park)
Shaving Foam: approximately 250 grams (well a certain Mr. likes using gel, so gel it was!)
My husband filled up a little clear box with sieved sand (since we collected it from the sand pit in the community park we needed to filter it out). We added gel and mixed it up and kept adding more as we moved on. We added more gel because Ruhaan just loved the feel of it on his hands. So the squirting, mixing and adding went on for a very very long time! He loved the grainy, wet, slimy texture of this sand. Of course, it was not like the store bought kinetic sand, but just like that, with some basic ingredients and a desire to play, the father and son spent a happy, happy, sandy morning!
