My kids and I just watched the Angry Birds movie last Sunday. While I thought it was quite alright, my son loved it!!
We got these little Angry Bird toys as giveaways in a lucky draw at the movie. So here’s what we did with them! We made some awesome DIY Frozen Angry Bird Eggs! An absolutely fun and frugal means to spend a hot summer afternoon.
Here’s What You Need For This DIY Kids Activity
Angry Bird Figurines (Feel free to experiment with any toy figurine inside the egg)
Balloons
A blunt object to hammer the ice (I used a brass pestle from the kitchen)
Salt
Safety Goggles
Step #1: Insert the Angry Bird inside the balloon. This is the tough bit so make sure you find a strong balloon with a slightly bigger mouth.
Step #2: Fill it with water till the balloon is big enough to replicate the size of an egg big enough to accommodate the bird.
Allow the balloons to freeze overnight.
Step #3: Once the water is frozen and you are ready to bring the bird out, tear the balloon and remove it slowly. You might need to snip the balloon away at some point here. This for us was a great opportunity to discuss how water, when frozen, takes the shape of the container that it is stored in.
Step #4: This is the most fun part. Ruhaan had zero patience and dug his swimming goggles out (these worked just as well as safety glasses would) and set to work. The ice was really hard when we started out. We got some table salt and sprinkled it over the ice to aid in the process. We made some inquiries into how salt helps in bringing down the temperature of ice. The sensory exploration was great.
Step #5: Once the ice began to thaw a little I handed Ruhaan a pestle and SMASH! There was some fine bit of hammering and smashing till the angry birds finally came out of their eggs.
This was indeed an Awesome DIY Kids Activity!
